• Understanding carbon footprints: embodied carbon and operational carbon, and the role construction plays.
• The different environmental impacts of designing, specifying, and sourcing various structural materials.
• What does good design mean and how do we go forward in engineering with an awareness of sustainability.

Alexandra Davis, LEED Green Associate

Alexandra is a Project Consultant / Environmental Analyst with Thornton Tomasetti’s Portland, Maine, office. She specializes in whole building life cycle and embodied carbon analysis and healthy materials vetting. Her experience includes the embodied carbon analysis of over 500 structural projects to develop benchmarking strategies in support of the American Institute of Architects 2030 Commitment for carbon neutral buildings. She brings a deep understanding of the environmental impacts of designing with mass timber, and knowledge of Red List chemical hazards in building materials used in green building certified projects. She strives to optimize the material efficiency in all projects for high performance and low carbon impact.
