Please join us for a presentation by John H. Thomsen, Ph.D., P.E., Principal at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger and Dominic R. Gagnon, Vice President of Facilities for the Maine Medical Center (formerly Colliers International), on Friday, October 23rd via ZOOM meeting.
The presentation will be on the demolition of the Maine Medical Center (MMC) Gilman Parking Garage in Portland Maine. The MMC employee parking garage has been a prominent fixture in the city’s skyline since it was constructed in 1972. The 10-story brutalist structure is located on Bramhall Hill between Congress Street and the main campus of the hospital. The demo is making way for a new patient tower that will house private beds and 19 procedure rooms as part of the $500M master facility expansion. Please join us to learn about the many constraints and challenges of demolishing this enormous structure located on a congested urban site adjacent to residential housing, Congress Street, and the hospitals surgical center. Logistics include supporting the excavation of Bramhall Hill and hospital with focus on the structural and geo-structural engineering. After registering online at the RSVP address below, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the ZOOM meeting. Looking forward to seeing you!
