SEAM Tour: Back Cove South CSO Storage Facility

Join us for a site tour of the progress at the Back Cove (South) Storage Facility in Portland. Get a close up view of the construction activities for the excavation visible from I-295 at Back Cove. Glen Adams, PE, of Sargent Construction will be providing a site tour of the excavation / new tanks and a discussion of the challenges encountered on this project, with insight from the structural engineer, Woodard and Curran.

Construction of the new storage facility includes multi-level internally braced sheet pile walls to support excavation of depths up to 25 feet below sea level in poor underlying soils including clay and bay mud. Construction of the new tanks includes more than 17,000 yards of cast-in-place concrete that will store over 3.5 million gallons of combined sewer overflow (CSO) collected from three city outfalls and directed to the tanks using 72″ pipelines.

We will meet at the south end parking lot at Baxter Boulevard, adjacent to the project site (across from Hannaford). Hard hat, eye protection, boots and safety vests are required. Steel toe is NOT required.
