Please join us for a tour of the new addition to 317 Main Street Community Music Center in downtown Yarmouth, ME
317 Main Street is a community music center offering and hosting a wide range of music lessons, jam sessions, and musical performances. The addition to the existing building provides new private lesson rooms, recording studios, a café to serve events, and a large new auditorium. Paul Designs Project is the architect of record, with Thornton Tomasetti as the structural consultant and Zachau Construction as the general contractor.
This presentation will provide an overview of the wood framed structural system, highlighting the integration of cross laminated timber panels for both gravity and lateral framing. Along with being the architect’s preferred material choice for walls and roof of the facility’s new auditorium, CLT panels were designed to significantly contribute to the building’s lateral system. Early coordination with the architect on CLT panel openings, joint connections, and base of panel to foundation wall details led to all notches, openings, and other panel cuts being captured in the shop drawings and therefore cut to precision during fabrication. CLT panels arrived on site ready to lift into place, minimizing both in-field adjustments and total construction time.
The tour will also highlight acoustic requirements of different spaces throughout the building and how this affected structural detailing.
