From the SEAM Officer Board

We have submitted a formal letter to the Maine State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers regarding the Structural Professional Engineer examination (often referred to as the SE exam) administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).

SEAM believes that the current CBT exam format for the Structural PE exam is not an effective assessment of structural engineers' competency and that significant changes should be made to the exam format.

We have documented the issues we identified with the current exam format and present them along with recommendations to the Maine State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers as they are the only organization that can direct NCEES to make changes to their exams.

This is similar to a letter sent in 2024 by SEAOI (20241106 NCEES Letter Regarding SE CBT.pdf - Google Drive). Following that, NCEES promised changes, but these changes have so far amounted to simply "band-aids" in the SEAM board's opinion.
