Masonry Design Learning Session

SEAM will be hosting an evening seminar to be put on via digital recording by Prof. Richard E. Klingner recently retired from the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. His areas of expertise include the behavior and design of masonry structures. From 2002 to 2008, he was Chair of the Masonry Standards Joint Committee, charged with the development of masonry design provisions for the U.S.

The presentation will run approximately 1.5 hrs and will be a prerecorded webinar. In this webinar, the structural behavior of low-rise reinforced masonry structures is first reviewed. That review is used as the basis for a simplified design approach for each essential structural component: walls loaded out of plane; walls loaded in plane; lintels; and diaphragms. Simplified techniques are introduced for lateral load analysis. Finally, the basics of masonry terminology and specification are presented.
