POSITION TITLE: Structural Mechanics Adjunct Faculty & Curriculum Developer – Fall 2017 Semester TAACCCT IV Grant Funded

INSTITUTION: Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC) is a 2-year comprehensive community college in thecenter of Maine serving approximately 2400 students from Somerset, Kennebec, and Knox counties and well beyond. In 2014, KVCC expanded its Fairfield-based operation to include a new 600-acre Harold Alfond Campus in Hinckley, Maine. Over the past three years, KVCC has invested nearly $30 million in college programs, infrastructure, and buildings including construction of the new KVCC Center for Science and Agricultural Education, the 120-acre organic farm at KVCC (including education facility, vegetable processing center, equipment, implements, systems, soils, livestock, greenhouses,shelters, fields), a new state-of-the-art culinary arts facility and demonstration kitchen, the largest carpentry lab in the northeast, an indoor electrical lineworker training facility, two medical simulation labs, an early childhood outdoor family education lab, a CNC machine tool lab, a welding lab, and many other important updates including a vast overhaul of IT equipment, software, and computers. SALARY: Salary and benefits commensurate with the Agreement between the Maine Community College
System Trustees and the MSEA Adjunct Faculty Bargaining Unit.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor of Science in Civil or Mechanical Engineering is required; or an Associate’s
degree in engineering with equivalent professional experience as a designer or inspector is the minimum
educational requirement along with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the field. A Master’s degree in
structural engineering with current Maine licensure and experience vetting timber frame plans is desired. Other
combinations of professional licenses, certifications, education, and experience will be considered. Demonstrated professionalism and interpersonal skills in collaborating with colleagues and directing students are essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES: To provide instruction that covers forces and loads acting on structures and how they are
resisted by the structural system. Students should gain knowledge about topics including reactions for beams,
frames and trusses; centroids, moments of inertia; shear and moment diagrams; and analysis of trusses. Load,
shear, torsion, bending, and other mechanical forces will need to be covered. Specific emphasis on timber frame structures should be included.

Structural Engineer/Project Manager, Camden, Maine

Gartley & Dorsky Engineering & Surveying is seeking a motivated, team-oriented Structural Engineer/Project Manager for a full-time position starting immediately. Responsibilities include structural analysis, structural design, field inspections and associated reports, construction documents, construction administration, project management and other related tasks.

Candidates should have a PE license and experience managing structural engineering projects. Candidates should be versed in timber, steel and concrete design. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, RISA, Enercalc (or similar software) required. Experience with AutoCAD and Revit preferred. Excellent communication skills and organization required.

Desired traits:
• Experience with the design of reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry and wood framing systems
• Experience in power and/or the heavy industrial fields a plus
• Experience with RISA 3D, STADD and/or other structural analysis software
• Proficiency in AutoCAD
• PE License considered a plus, but not required
